The Ellipse Light is second generation Intense Pulsed Light system is also used for :

Skin Rejuvenation
Acne Clearance
Facial Thread Veins
Skin Rejuvenation

How it works ~ Aged spots and hyper pigmentation contains melanin and diffused redness contains haemoglobin. The light is absorbed by the melanin in the pigmented area and the heat reaction caused breaks the excess melanin in the keratinocytes. A photo toxic reaction occurs in the melanin vesicles and the excess melanin turns darker before it comes away from the skin.
The light is also absorbed by the superficial blood vessels in the skin. The heat reaction
caused coagulates blood vessels, destroys protein in the wall of the vessel and
stimulates collagen production.

Skin rejuvenation is the treatment of sun damaged skin.
The treatment can be used for diffuse redness (high colour) and pigmented lesions such as hyper pigmentation, solar lentigines (sun spots) and freckles.
The results ~ pigmentation will become darker in colour immediately after the treatment. A few days after the treatment the pigmented area will develop a light crust (this is a good sign that the treatment has worked). After that the skin will look smoother and fresher. A few more treatment sessions may be required to keep a smooth and youthful appearance.
For best results ~ on average, 1 ~ 3 treatments at 4 week intervals are needed for the best results. Top up treatments may be needed in the future to maintain these results. For optimum collagen stimulation effect with Skin Rejuvenation, 6 treatments at 4 week intervals would be recommended.

Acne Clearance

How it works – Ellipse Acne treatment is aimed specifically at the treatment of superficial inflammatory acne. The acne treatment works in two ways: The light targets the porphyrins produced by the bacteria that cause the acne, destruction of these porphyrins will produce free oxygen radicals and a bactericidal effect is induced to reduce the acne infection. The light is also absorbed by the haemoglobin in the superficial blood vessels that supply the sebaceous glands and destruction of these will slow down the over production of oil that lead to acne. The heat reaction produced will also stimulate collagen production to increase healing of the acne lesions and may even soften the appearance of scarring.
Special precautions before and after treatment – The Ellipse acne treatment is a combination therapy. It is recommended you use adapalene (Differin or Redap) cream or gel. Sun exposure should be avoided 30-60 days before and after treatment.
The results – there may be some general redness on the face and following the treatment pigmented areas may appear darker though this will eventually disappear. Because the bacteria is difficult to eradicate completely, your doctor will probably recommend that you continue using adaplene cream or gel some months after the treatment has ended. A course of Ellipse treatments is recommended with 2-3 week intervals.

Facial Thread Veins

How it works – The light is attracted to the target chromophore oxy-haemoglobin in the blood. As the light is absorbed by the blood in the vessels, a heat reaction is caused which coagulates the blood and destroys protein in the wall of the vessel. The vessel then breaks down and the debris is removed by the body’s natural waste disposal system (lymphatic system).
Only clients with skin type 3 can be treated. It is important that the client avoids sun exposure 30-60 days prior to treatment. Sun exposure can increase the risk of pain or burns from excessive light absorption in the epidermis. If the client has a sun tan it may be better to wait until the colour reduces to achieve the best results.

The results – on average 2-4 treatments with 4 week intervals are needed for the best results. Top up treatments may be needed in the future to maintain these results.
